John, the second son of Henry and Ann, was baptised in Kingston Bagpuize on 16 May 1802.
On 15 August 1829 in Kingston Bagpuize , John married Charlotte Webb, who was born in West Hendred, Berkshire about 1811 to Benjamin and Hannah Webb. The year of Charlotte's birth has been estimated from her age shown on the censuses.
John and Charlotte had seven children -
* Mary Anne, Albert and Eliza were three of the seven family members who died of Typhus Fever, which tragedy is described here.
The Kingston Bagpuize baptism register shows that John was a labourer up to the time of the birth of his fourth child, Moses on 5 June 1836. The baptism of the fifth child John does not appear in the register. This suggests that the John was probably born in Buscot, Berkshire in 1837. It is in Buscot that John and Charlotte are living on the 1841 census. He is probably working as a Toll Collector and living at the Turnpike. The census record is very hard to read and the occupation is illegible. However, in the 1851 census, the occupant of the Turnpike in Buscot is described as a Toll Collector, so it is reasonable to assume that this was John's occupation. By the birth of the sixth child, Eliza, John and Charlotte were back in Kingston Bagpuize, and John is again described as a labourer on the parish baptism record for Eliza and Henry.
John died in Kingston Bagpuize on 2 June 1844 of Epilepsy, and was buried in the village on 5 Jun 1844.
Charlotte appears on four other census forms. In the 1851 census she is described as an Agricultural Labourer, and is living in Kingston Bagpuize with her mother, Hannah Webb, and three of her children. In the 1861 Census her occupation is Field Work and she is living in Kingston Bagpuize with son Henry and her brother, William Webb. Jonathan and Elizabeth are immediately above her on the census record. In the 1871 Census her occupation is Housekeeper to her brother, William Webb in Kingston Bagpuize. In the 1881 census she is working as an Agricultural Labourer in Kingston Bagpuize. She is living alone, but on the same page is Moses's widow, Maria at the post office.
Charlotte probably died in 1887 in Kingston Bagpuize.
