Sandend is a small village on the coast in the north of Banffshire in the district of Fordyce. The village is mostly strung out along Seaview Road which runs northwards from the A98. There is just one other road - The Bents.

Cullen is a small village on the coast in the north of Banffshire, two to three miles west of Sandend. Seafield Farm is just across the A98 from the southern part of Cullen.
Peter Nicholson McLaren Flaws is shown as working here as a ploughman in the 1851 census and as an agricultural labourer in the 1861 census. On the 1861 census, his wife, Agnes, whom he married in 1855 is living in Sandend with their children, Jessie and Charles. She is described as a Ploughman's wife.
Keith is a large village on the coast in the north of Banffshire, two to three miles west of Sandend.
Agnes Riddoch, wife of Peter flaws was born in Newmill, Keith about 1828. Her mother was Janet Chalmers,a domestic servant, and her father was reputed to be William Riddoch, a farmer, but nothing else definite is known about them.
